Each season, we offer between 4 and 6 CSA shares for work trade. Work shares get a half vegetable share in exchange for 4 hours of work each Friday afternoon. (1-5pm)
Shares are delivered to 159 Sutton St in Providence Tuesdays between 3:30 and 7pm from June-Thanksgiving. Shares are not available at the farm on Fridays. Work shares are also welcome to free seconds produce when available, sometimes at the farm and sometimes at pickup.
On Friday afternoons, we mostly bulk harvest roots and fruits for CSA, though we also work on other projects in the field that need doing, like weeding, hoeing, mulching, planting and moving things around. You'll mostly work in pairs, small or larger groups, though sometimes you'll work independently for a bit. It’s super fun! No experience is required (though its certainly a plus). You do need to be comfortable doing physical work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and rain (we have some extra rain gear). You should be able to lift and carry 40 pounds. You should be able to talk and work at the same time, as you are doing important work that needs to get done by the end of the day.
Anyone who wants to work hard and join our sweet little farm community is welcome. The Friday workshare in particular is a safe place for female, queer and transgender people. There's also a pretty sweet 5-year- old guy who works with us sometimes. When you come to work with us, we ask that you be respectful of your fellow volunteers.
To sign-up for a workshare, email scratchfarm at gmail.com to set up a time to come visit the farm.
