Main Season CSA
2017 Online Membership Form
What’s a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a way for farms to sell directly to customers. Each CSA farm organizes their CSA a little differently, but most CSAs ask customers to pay ahead of time for a weekly share of the harvest. At Scratch, this model allows us to do a lot of our marketing in the winter, and frees us up in the spring, summer and fall to focus on what we love and are best at...growing your food!
When you join our CSA, you become a shareholder in the farm for a season. Your membership directly supports the farm’s operation and entitles you to a weekly share of our produce. As a CSA member, you also ensure the livelihood of small-scale organic farming in Rhode Island and actively support a local economy that promotes both agricultural and economic sustainability.
Each week you will receive a portion of all that’s ripe and ready in our fields. Due to the nature of the growing season, shares will be lighter in the spring and heavier in summer and fall. While content will vary from June to November, we estimate we’ll have 7-10 different items each week, with plenty of favorites and some things that may be new to you.
2017 pickups will be Tuesday afternoons, June 6-November 21, 3:30-7 pm, in the West End of Providence at 159 Sutton St.
(Returning members, please note the changes in pickup day, time, and location! We hope these will make pickup even more convenient by eliminating holiday pickups, lengthening the pickup window and offering more parking and interior space at our beautiful new location, just off Broadway.)
June: Strawberries; Snap Peas; Salad Mix or Cooking Greens; Herb bunch; Beets, Radish or Scallion; Garlic Scapes
September: Heirloom Tomatoes; Watermelon; Eggplant or Peppers; Garlic; Onions or Leeks; Carrots or Beets; Salad mix; Cukes or squash
The main season CSA share lasts twenty-five weeks, from June 6 through November 21. Full shares (for 2-4 adults) are available for $775, or on a sliding scale from $650-$875 (that's $31/week, or $26-$35/week). Half shares (for 1-2 adults) are available for $525, or $400-$625 (that's $21/week, or $16-$25/week).
We also offer additional shares from our local farmer friends of meat, cheese, eggs, fermented vegetables, and herbal tea.
By using a sliding scale we hope to attract some customers who otherwise would not be able to afford a share. Please pay at the midpoint of the scale ($775 for a full share or $525 for a half share) or higher unless you consider yourself low income. If you have the ability to pay the maximum amount please do, you will be directly subsidizing low income shares and helping to broaden access to healthy food in your community.
Joining the CSA/Payment
To join, just fill out the form at the top of this page. Then mail in at least a $100 deposit, and pay your balance in at most two installments, one at the first CSA pickup, the last half-way through the season. Paying up front if you are able is great; it helps cover upfront expenses in the winter and spring when we need it most. If you need to work out a payment plan, that's ok too- just include a note with a proposed schedule for payment in your form. We also accept SNAP.
We are happy to again offer a 4 week spring share starting Tuesday May 9th. Pickups are at 159 Sutton St, but shorter time frame (4-6 only). Get a jump on the season with plenty of salad greens, cooking greens, spinach, radishes, spring onions and green garlic, herbs, asparagus, baby carrots and beets and other such delights! Sign up using the regular CSA member form above.
