Main Season CSA
2019 csa Membership form
Welcome back! Signups for the 2019 season are now open for returning members only. Check out a note about new prices and limited share availability this season. Also, main season shares will run 6/4-11/26, with no pickup on 7/2. That’s still 25 deliveries, just stretched over 26 weeks.
Signups for new members, if space allows, will open 3/1. Any non-returning members submitting a form before 3/1 will be placed on our waiting list. We’ll let you know if you have a spot after 3/1. Thanks for your patience!
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. When you join Scratch Farm CSA, you become a shareholder, or member, for the season. Your up front financial contribution directly supports the farm’s operation and entitles you to a weekly share of our produce. This model provides your farmers cash flow when it's needed most (February-May), and frees us up in the spring, summer and fall to focus on what we love...growing your food!
As a CSA member, you are actively supporting a local economy that promotes both agricultural and economic sustainability. But being a member is not just an economic exchange of money for food. By joining, you also become part of a diverse community of people who love good food and care about where and how it is raised. We've been helping to feed our community through the CSA since 2005. More than half our members have been with us for 3 years or more and in our most recent survey 90% say they would recommend us to a friend. We are lucky to be a community-supported farm and we'd be happy to have you join us.
Each week you will receive a portion of all that’s ripe and ready in our fields. Due to the nature of the growing season, shares will be lighter in the spring and heavier in summer and fall. While content will vary from June to November, we estimate we’ll have 7-10 different items each week, with plenty of favorites and some things that may be new to you.
Our weekly pickups are market-style, allowing you to choose, within the limits allowed by the week's harvest, what to take. For example, one item for half shares for a certain week might be up to 2 lbs cucumbers/summer squash. Want all zucchini this week? A pound of yellow squash and a pound of cukes? Or mix and match some of each to meet the weight. For each item in the share, you choose which bunch, head or fruit looks best. Pickups are held at 159 Sutton St., a beautifully restored carriage house just off Broadway that is now home to a small art gallery and community space. Customers love to see our veggies laid out each week with a rotating back drop of work by local artists!
2019 pickups will once again be held Tuesday afternoons, June 4-November 26, 3:30-7 pm, on the west side of Providence at 159 Sutton St. There will be no pickup on 7/2 this season. Parking is available on Sutton St., Broadway, or directly across the street in the spacious Aurora social club parking lot.
June: Strawberries; Snap Peas; Salad Mix or Cooking Greens; Herb bunch; Beets, Radish or Scallion; Garlic Scapes
September: Heirloom Tomatoes; Watermelon; Eggplant or Peppers; Garlic; Onions or Leeks; Carrots or Beets; Salad mix; Cukes or squash
The main season CSA share consists of 25 pickups over the 26 week period from June 4 through November 26 (NO PICKUP JULY 4TH WEEK THIS YEAR but there are still 25 pickups). Full shares (for 2-4 adults) are available for $850, or on a sliding scale from $700-$975 (that's $34/week). Half shares (for 1-3 adults) are available for $575, or $450-$700 (that's $23/week, or $16-$25/week).
We also offer additional shares from our local farmer friends of eggs, fruit, and mushrooms.
By using a sliding scale we hope to attract some customers who otherwise would not be able to afford a share. Please pay at the midpoint of the scale ($850 for a full share or $575 for a half share) or higher unless you consider yourself low income. If you have the ability to pay the maximum amount please do, you will be directly subsidizing low income shares and helping to broaden access to healthy food in your community.
Joining the CSA/Payment
To join, just fill out the form at the top of this page. Then mail in at least a $100 deposit, and pay your balance in at most two installments, one at the first CSA pickup, the last half-way through the season. Paying up front if you are able is great; it helps cover upfront expenses in the winter and spring when we need it most. If you need to work out a payment plan, that's ok too- just include a note with a proposed schedule for payment in your form. We also accept SNAP.
We are happy to offer a 3 week spring share starting Tuesday May 14th. Pickups are at 159 Sutton St, but shorter time frame (3:30-6pm). Get a jump on the season with a weekly dose of salad greens, cooking greens, spinach, radishes, spring onions and green garlic, herbs, asparagus, baby carrots and beets and other such delights! Sign up using the regular CSA member form above. Spring shares are reserved for those purchasing main season shares. (5/14-5/28, 3 deliveries, $70)
